In 2013, Megan Simmons, 14, and Jazmine Shelton, 13, were excited for a sleepover just before school let out for summer. They were planning on going to the beach the next day. That never happened. A drive-by shooting at Shelton’s mother’s home on Missouri Avenue took both their
lives, shattering their families’ hearts. No arrests have been made.
Eleven years later, their families are determined to get justice. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case, hoping to bring them closure. In this month’s spotlight, Detective Travis Oliver, Sr., goes through the evidence as Simmons’ grandmother reflects on life without the girls.
