The Sheriff’s Watch programs focus on citizen engagement with police to make our community a safer place. We have something for everyone!
In this section you will learn about Sheriff’s Watch and upcoming meeting times, along with other programs available under this design including: Sheriff’s Watch – Apartments and Sheriff’s Watch – Neighborhood.
What is Sheriff’s Watch?
What strengthens relationships between citizens and police? We believe that happens when citizens and police can take a walk together; get online and hear from each other; go to a meeting and speak to one another in a relaxed environment; join together in a class; or on a ride along with a police officer. These encounters are where information is exchanged and trust is built.
We will always have the emergency calls for services, and we always work hard to provide the best service and professionalism in those situations. We are equally committed to educating the public about issues on the national forefront and of concern locally. But the very best opportunity to strengthen a relationship between a citizen and the police is when we can meet and talk about issues of concern.
For nearly 30 years the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has had a Sheriff’s Advisory Council. The monthly meetings, in the areas where citizens work and live, is citizen led and provides an opportunity for that face-to-face discussion about crime issues facing our neighborhoods. JSO police are active participants, and together solutions and recommendations are discussed and implemented. There is an accountability and more importantly, a bond that grows from people knowing they can come to a meeting to get a resolution to a problem, or learn the many ways crime can be prevented.
All of this is done with the goal of a safer community and stronger relationships.

Additionally, advisors meet with Sheriff Waters and his staff on a quarterly basis.
Engage with us by particpating in:
- Monthly Sheriff's Watch Meetings in the sector where you live or where your business is located
- Be an active member of a neighborhood watch group
- Join the Sheriff, your district commander, lieutenants, or sergeants for a neighborhood walk
- Attend a Coffee With a Cop - help promote it to your neighbors and friends
- Participate in National Night Out (first Tuesday in August)
